Technology is rapidly disrupting economies, legal frameworks and industries including the financial services industry. In 2017, IDC estimated that banks and financial services organizations in Europe were expected to spend approximately EUR 90 billion on IT with a growing proportion of this to be invested in new cloud technologies such as analytics and mobile.

I believe that people and companies work for an opportunity to harness these disruptive technologies in new ways to make smarter business decisions and become more productive. That is why the company I work for - ActivTrades, one of the leading online Forex* brokers in the financial industry - looks at these new trends and technologies as an untapped opportunity.

Today our client base is growing fast, which means that we need to meet this increasing demand and ensure that we provide uninterrupted, fast, reliable, yet flexible and highly secure services, whilst remaining profitable with cost-effective infrastructure.

We are offering to our clients a proprietary trading platform called ActivTrader, as well as two popular trading solutions: MetaTrader 4 and 5. Last year we decided to migrate our systems to IBM Cloud and signed a three-year IT services agreement. Today, I can proudly confirm that we have completed the migration of MetaTrader 4,5 and our proprietary platform, ActivTrader to the IBM Cloud.

Our new cloud based platform helps our clients to quickly access up-to-date account information, stock quotes, community bulletin boards and online features to better manage their financial portfolios. Because IBM Cloud is an open, scalable and flexible platform, we could seamlessly deploy MetaTrader 4,5 and ActivTrader to the new working environment. As a result, today we are able to deploy new services in days and can execute transactions very fast - we now have the capacity to settle more than a million transactions per day in real-time.

In addition to cloud infrastructure, the agreement also covers IBM technology and security services. Our work with IBM is helping us to streamline operations and enable fast, secure and efficient trade of more than 50 currency pairs in the Spot Forex market, alongside Indices, Metals, Oil, Cryptocurrencies and other products. By boosting performance, gaining efficiency, and strategically deploying resources for data management, we hope to be one step ahead and completely ready for the digital future that is coming.
