Digital Realty announced the expansion of its existing data center in Zagreb, ZAG1. Driven by growing customer demands, ZAG1 is expanding by an additional 1,600 m2 of ICT and technical space.

The facility is one of the most connected data centers in the Adriatic region, offering users the ability to connect to more than 50 connectivity providers along with private and direct ("on-ramp") connections to leading service providers. It is expected that the new capacity in ZAG1 will be available to users at the end of 2024.

The growing demand for data center capacity in Zagreb is driven by increasing digitization, the growth of the Croatian economy, and the Croatian Government's Digital Croatia 2030 strategy. Digital Realty is investing to meet this demand by building a second data center in Zagreb, ZAG2, which will be located close to ZAG1 and interconnected associated with it, as previously announced.

The expansion of ZAG1 is just one segment in Digital Realty's strategy to strengthen its presence in the Southeast European region. The company is also expanding its presence in Greece, building new data centers in Rome, Barcelona, Crete, and Tel Aviv, and upgrading its presence in Athens and Marseille.

“This expansion cements Zagreb's status as a key strategic gateway to Southeast Europe, an area analysts expect to grow significantly over the next few years as major service providers, OTT media platforms, and content delivery networks seek to become more distributed in the region. Our customers will benefit from improved latency for end users of their services located in Croatia and the wider region, which has an estimated population of over 60 million inhabitants. Increasing the capacity of the data center ZAG1, for which there is already great interest from existing customers, is just another step in the global expansion of our PlatformDIGITAL platform", said Goran Đoreski, Director of Digital Realty in Croatia.
