Combis is Donating Applications Built in NeoStartup

Two projects, developed in Combis' internal startup "Neostartup", that Combis has decided to donate, were presented on the jubilee Combis Conference. One is the ER Scheduler, a system designed to automate the scheduling of shift work in the Institute of Emergency Medicine, and the other is the Olive Manager, a solution that allows oil refineries to manage data on processing of olives and olive oil production. Combis has donated the ER Scheduler solution to the Institute of Emergency Medicine of Vukovar-Srijem County, and the Olive Manager solution to the agricultural cooperative Marina.

"Combis is a successful company for more than 25 years. Numerous times over the years we have been the first in launching certain initiatives, we have participated in all phases of ICT development in the region, but always as a forefront company. We believe that this kind of companies have a certain responsibility to their society", said Mladen Maras, technical director of Application Development Services Division at COMBIS.

Maras pointed that COMBIS shows this responsibility in two ways. One is the selfless assistance to the businesses of others, which is precisely why they decided to donate the application solutions, and the other way is the help to the young IT community in Croatia, since it was students who worked on the Neostartup solutions with the help of experienced COMBIS' engineers.

"Scheduling is an exhausting and time-consuming task in our dynamic profession. With the help of ER Scheduler, our shift scheduling becomes much faster, simpler and clearer process that satisfies all the organizational, legal and personal limitations. In addition, it creates the ability to track the statistics of employee availability, as well as their absence, which increases the productivity of the Institute", stated Mario Matić from the Institute of Emergency Medicine of Vukovar-Srijem County while presenting the benefits of the application.

Jakša Najev from agricultural cooperative Marina told that with the help from Olive Manager, now in oil mill they have a precise insight into all data and activities, for particular machine and particular subcontractor. “We can monitor how our business develops through years and which subcontractors use our services most. Also, from which area come most of the olives and which time of the season is best for processing the olives in order to get the best quality of olive oil. We are very grateful to Combis and the entire team that made this happen for us“, said Najev.

On ER Scheduler and Olive Manager solutions, aside from COMBIS’s engineers, worked students who showed the most at COMBIS hackathon try{code}catch held this year in April. At the 24-hour competition students were assigned to make prototypes of ER Scheduler and Olive Manager solutions, and the ones with the best solution got the invitation from COMBIS to continue with the development within Neostartup programme.

"We have offered to students, and they were obviously very pleased with that, not only a chance to win valuable cash prizes, but the ability to continue developing their ideas in COMBIS. In other competitions of this kind, when the competition ends, everything that was created within actually stops. On the other hand, this was a precious opportunity for someone to continue developing a hackathon idea", said Maras, adding that COMBIS plans to encourage NeoStartup projects in the future as well.

"It is our intention to get to innovative IT solutions. It is neither a quick nor an easy task, but we are dedicated to it because we know that the most important thing for development is to create something new and different. We also have enthusiastic team, so we will continue in this direction without delay", concludes Maras.
