SAP is Making the Move From GUI to VR

SAP is aiming to reach new heights of technological advancement, and a Hungarian company Netlife will help them in that quest. In 2013, SAP announced a new, Web-based User Interface framework for its ERP system, optimized for phone and tablet usage, SAP Fiori. Since then, Fiori has grown into a stable and mature framework, and it was met with success and universal acclaim from across the industry.

Although unconfirmed at this point, the news is that SAP is set to announce a new User Interface, based in a virtual reality environment, at the beginning of April. Netlife was one of the pioneers of implementing SAP Fiori in Hungary. Netlife’s customized Fiori-based applications power the business processes of many large corporations.

As a systems implementation and development company, Netlife is a domain expert in multiple technologies, and VR is no exception. Whether as a result of their extensive VR experience, or the company’s vast Fiori knowledge, Netlife has been selected to design the next step in the evolution of the Fiori framework, Fiori VR.

It would be too early to judge how this User Interface paradigm will benefit users but the German software giant’s dedication to the concept, suggests they already have the answers. Based on unofficial, leaked images, the design is a modified version of the Fiori Belize theme, with a heavy emphasis on horizontal scrolling, in line with natural head and eye movement.
