New Head of Gideon Brothers’ Autonomous Technologies Division

Gideon Brothers announced that Josip Ćesić will lead the company’s Autonomous Technologies Division. Ćesić was part of the group that developed one of the fastest and most accurate SLAM algorithms in the world. SLAM, an acronym for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping, is a component of the robot's "brain" required for robots to move autonomously (the same algorithm used by self-driving cars and the Mars Rover).

Prior to joining Gideon Brothers, he worked with Professor Ivan Petrović at FER’s Department of Control and Computer Engineering (University of Zagreb) in their Laboratory for Autonomous Systems and Mobile Robotics (LAMOR). In November 2017, Ćesić received the Josip Lončar Silver Plaque for exemplary research on a PhD in the domain of multiple moving object tracking based on random finite sets and Lie groups. He has numerous recommendations from colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic and is published in some of the most prestigious robotics journals, including Automatica.

“What first drew me to Gideon Brothers was the caliber of the Executive team. We have a diversity of experience and style that in combination creates incredible dynamism. It’s an exciting environment to be part of. I’m very much looking forward to leading and mentoring the members of the Autonomous Technologies Division", said Ćesić.

In a recent panel on robotics in Croatia, he talked about how the industry is evolving: “Working in robotics just 10 years ago was a very different experience. We would be talking about automation in environments where it would be unsafe for a human to work alongside them. Today, the barriers are falling on so many levels. Robots are increasingly approachable and the range of applications is widening. There is an emerging consensus that the next transformative wave in the world economy will be led by advances in communications, transport and energy, which will alleviate many of the world’s problems such as poverty and inadequate health care. Advances in robotic transport will be one of the core elements of this transformation. It is exciting to be part of that wave. “

"Josip is a consummate professional and never settles for the status quo. It is no wonder why he is seen as one of the brightest stars in the field. He is a huge asset to our Gideon Brothers family and I'm privileged to work alongside Josip in the building of a really significant company", said Gideon Brothers’ CEO, Matija Kopić

Gideon Brothers’ core focus is the development of autonomous, collaborative and modular robot platforms and autonomy technologies for unstructured, indoor, human environments in various industries. Its team of 32 professionals is one of the largest robotics and autonomous technologies groups in Southeast Europe, covering both software and hardware development. They have offices in Zagreb and Osijek.
