Amazon Plans to Invest €16 Billion in Germany

Amazon has announced plans to allocate €16 billion toward its German operations in 2027. This strategic capital injection is intended to significantly expand the company's artificial intelligence infrastructure, cloud computing capabilities, and satellite connectivity services.

This initiative brings Amazon's total investment in Germany to over €100 billion since 2010, as the firm competes with Google and Microsoft to establish dominant AI and cloud positions within the nation. David Zapolsky, Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer, characterized Germany as a primary innovation hub and a premier destination for European investment. “Our objective is to provide German enterprises, communities, and content creators with the necessary infrastructure and tools to facilitate competitive growth.”

The investment framework includes €4.8 billion dedicated to enhancing Amazon Web Services’ Frankfurt cloud region and AI infrastructure to address rising consumer demand. Furthermore, the company plans to improve national connectivity via its Amazon Leo satellite network, which has secured 24 launch slots with the European provider Arianespace. Amazon also intends to expand its logistics network and increase localized content production for its Prime Video platform.
