Bosch to Form New Semiconductor Business Division
In a strategic reorganization of its corporate framework, Bosch is scheduled to transition its semiconductor operations into a newly established division designated as "Semiconductors." This entity will remain integrated within the Mobility business sector. With European demand for semiconductors projected to double by 2040 due to robotics and industrial automation, Bosch intends to capitalize on this trajectory, targeting approximately €5 billion in semiconductor-related revenue by 2030. The firm seeks to leverage growth opportunities not only within its traditional automotive and consumer electronics portfolios—spanning smartphones and wearable technology—but also through pioneering applications in robotics where Bosch hardware is currently deployed.
“Semiconductors represent the essential framework of our interconnected world and serve as a fundamental success factor across all Bosch divisions,” stated Markus Heyn, deputy chairman of the board of management of Bosch and chairman of the Mobility business sector. “Currently, Bosch semiconductors facilitate the efficient control of humanoid robotic systems. Moving forward, high-precision sensors will provide the foundational technology for increasingly sophisticated intelligent systems. Semiconductors are integral to our ‘Invented for life’ methodology and constitute the technical basis for the innovations developed by our clientele.”
Bosch maintains its position as a preferred industrialization partner and component provider for the global robotics sector, ranking as a leading supplier of sensor technology across the entire robotics continuum—from domestic vacuum systems to advanced humanoid platforms. Furthermore, the organization intends to increase the availability of its manufacturing capacity to third-party partners, systematically expanding its dedicated semiconductor foundry operations.
“By establishing this autonomous unit, we are initiating a significant new phase in our sixty-year history within the semiconductor industry,” remarked Erik Rein, who oversees Bosch’s semiconductor operations. “In the future, we will be positioned to more effectively customize our service offerings to meet the specific requirements of our customers—within the automotive industry, consumer electronics, and beyond.”
