DT to Boost Growth, Efficiency, and Quality with AI

During its AI Investor Day in Bonn, Deutsche Telekom elucidated how the integration of artificial intelligence is yielding a quantifiable contribution to its commercial operations. Members of the Executive Board and specialized subject matter experts presented diverse applications spanning the entire group, with a strategic emphasis on revenue generation, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.

“AI is fundamentally transforming DT. It makes our networks even better and smarter, our service more personalized, and opens up new business models: from AI assistants during phone calls to a sovereign infrastructure for European industry,” stated Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom. “What matters most is that technology delivers measurable value, for our customers and for our company.”

DT identifies Europe’s requirement for sovereign AI as a significant commercial opportunity. The organization is currently developing a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises intended to automate repetitive tasks within customer service and logistics. By 2026, the firm anticipates generating approximately €250 million in AI-related revenue from non-U.S. markets, with a target of increasing this figure to roughly €800 million by 2030.

For 2027, DT projects that AI and automation will facilitate gross savings of approximately €1.1 billion outside the U.S. relative to 2023 levels. By 2030, it aims to achieve savings of approximately €2.5 billion in indirect costs. A portion of the 2027 savings will be reinvested in accelerating digital transformation and expanding the fiber-optic infrastructure in Germany, with total expected savings from AI and automation reaching €100-150 million between 2023 and 2027.

“We’re just getting started. We want to roll out across the entire company what’s working today in individual applications. This will enable us to grow faster, work more efficiently, and set new standards for quality. At the same time, we want to demonstrate that Europe can successfully develop and operate sovereign AI,” Höttges remarked during the event.
