Infobip Launches SIM-Based Number Verification
Infobip has officially launched its SIM-based Number Verification solution, designed to help telecom operators worldwide accelerate the adoption of advanced authentication through Network API aggregation and enterprise onboarding. This initiative is structured to help mobile network operators (MNOs) create new revenue streams while enabling enterprises to transition away from traditional one-time passwords (OTP) toward more secure, lower-friction authentication experiences. As factors such as fraud, delivery challenges, and regulatory scrutiny reshape the landscape, both operators and enterprises are increasingly seeking alternatives to traditional SMS-based codes.
SIM-based Number Verification utilizes the SIM card and the mobile network as a trusted identity layer, allowing for "silent" authentication. This process proves the actual possession of the mobile phone number without requiring the user to manually enter a code. By using the SIM as a trust anchor and cryptographically verifying the identity through the mobile network, the approach reduces fraud risks and improves the overall user experience. Furthermore, it enables seamless authentication across both cellular and Wi-Fi environments. Unlike previous network-based methods, this solution supports modern consent- and token-based flows, reducing the heavy dependence on mobile-data-only verification.
Infobip acts as the bridge connecting telecom operators with enterprise demand, helping MNOs commercialize these capabilities through a single integration. This allows operators to monetize their network assets while providing enterprises with operator-grade security that offers a superior customer experience compared to OTP. Matija Ražem, Chief Commercial Telecom Officer at Infobip, noted that operators already own the most trusted assets in digital identity—the SIM and the network. Infobip’s role is to help them commercialize these capabilities faster while providing enterprises with a scalable path toward more secure authentication.
