Orange Cyberdefense Establishes Cybersecurity Alliance with Mistral AI

Orange Cyberdefense has established a partnership with Mistral AI to develop security services utilizing a specialized iteration of the French firm's large language model. The agreement grants Orange Cyberdefense preliminary access to a cybersecurity-optimized version designated as Mistral Large 4.

The entities plan to implement this technology across various stages of defensive operations. Initial development will prioritize penetration testing and technical auditing, leveraging AI to simulate diverse attack scenarios and identify system vulnerabilities. The platform will also facilitate incident response by analyzing security logs to reconstruct complex cyberattacks.

Both organizations emphasized that all applications will function under human supervision, incorporating access controls and traceability as fundamental safeguards. Critical defensive actions will remain the direct responsibility of security experts. The Orange subsidiary also highlighted digital sovereignty, utilizing European computing infrastructure to execute these cybersecurity models.

Mistral AI co-founder and CTO Timothee Lacroix stated the partnership aims to provide European entities with a sovereign and trusted AI defense solution. This collaboration occurs as cybersecurity providers address the increasing use of AI by threat actors to automate attacks. “Volume, speed, and trust constitute the primary challenges in this era,” noted Orange Cyberdefense CEO Hugues Foulon, advocating for AI-driven defense at scale.
