Samsung Forms Brand New Robotics Division
Samsung created a new robotics division intended to span research hubs in the US, China, and Japan. Its main goals are to accelerate the company's ambitions in the sector.
The company stated Robotics eXperience (RX) will be tasked with running its medium- to long-term robotics strategy, focusing on technology development, business execution, and expanding domestic and international research operations. Its trio of overseas research hubs is intended to strengthen Samsung’s competitiveness and use of local resources.
Former Hyundai Motor Group executive Lee Dongkun will lead the RX unit, which will be overseen by president and co-CEO TM Roh. Dongkun previously led robotics strategy at Hyundai Motor Group and also had a leading role in shaping robotics at Boston Dynamics, which is majority-owned by the automotive group.
The RX division is to be based at Samsung’s R&D campus in Seoul, which it plans to expand with additional staff, offices and facilities. It previously announced an aim to invest around KRW19 trillion ($12.9 billion) at a site in Gumi to develop physical AI infrastructure and humanoid robotics facilities.
