SES and Elveo Unveil D2D Manufacturing Plans for Europe

SES has outlined strategic plans to establish direct-to-device (D2D) satellite manufacturing capabilities and a specialized supply chain within Europe in partnership with Elveo Mobile. This initiative is part of a broader, expanded collaboration designed to accelerate the delivery of advanced satellite services across the region.

Elveo Mobile was formed through the merger of Lynk Global and Omnispace, a transaction that saw SES become a significant shareholder in the newly combined entity. As part of this deepening relationship, SES will utilize Elveo’s patented technologies to facilitate mobile roaming for a wide range of European users, including consumers, businesses, government institutions, and defense agencies. The two companies will work together to build out European manufacturing facilities and a robust supply chain for low Earth orbit (LEO) D2D satellites, leveraging Elveo’s specific satellite bus, payload, and software technology architecture.

These LEO satellites are intended to function as part of a sophisticated multi-orbit architecture that integrates Elveo’s network with SES’s existing geostationary (GEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO) systems. This structure is designed to provide secure and resilient connectivity for European government bodies and institutional users, including NATO. SES noted that European clients will also benefit from the global distribution of Elveo’s offerings, supported by high-priority 2GHz S-band spectrum rights and a market footprint that currently reaches more than 1 billion people.

SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh stated that European consumer, commercial, and government users deserve resilient, secure multi-orbit connectivity, adding that the company is preparing to deliver it by combining SES’s networks with Elveo’s D2D services. Elveo chief Ramu Potarazu, a former Lynk Global CEO, described SES as the right partner for bringing D2D services to Europe. “By working closely with SES, we are confident we can accelerate access to critical D2D connectivity for European mobile operators and governments that depend on them.”
