Trump Names AI Czar

US President Donald Trump has designated Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as the administration’s inaugural AI coordinator, or "czar." The appointment is intended to centralize and synchronize the federal government's strategic initiatives within the rapidly advancing sector.

In a social media announcement, Trump indicated that Clayton will preside over the newly established Super Intelligence Force (SIF). This body is tasked with coordinating federal efforts to ensure the United States retains its global leadership in "Super Intelligence," a field the President compared in significance to the Industrial Revolution. Trump recently mandated the term "super intelligence" via executive order, requiring its use across all federal departments, communications, and policy documentation.

The SIF is slated to manage the federal government’s interactions with consumers, public advocacy groups, religious entities, critical infrastructure operators, and major AI developers. The President has continued to minimize the potential existential risks of AI, asserting that the recent voluntary self-regulation agreement signed by leading industry participants is sufficient for safety purposes.

Clayton’s committee will evaluate AI-specific risks and current governmental protocols for addressing data breaches and cyber incidents, while formulating recommendations to enhance response capabilities under existing legal authorities. Trump clarified that the SIF will report directly to him and his Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles.
