Apple Unveils New iPhones and Other Products and Services

Apple unveiled new iPhones with camera enhancements and improved battery life, according to Bloomberg.

CEO Tim Cook presented three iPhones during Apple’s annual product roll-out. The company also introduced updates to the Apple Watch, revealed pricing for new video and gaming subscription services, and debuted a low-cost iPad.

Many of the new iPhone features were expected, including upgraded camera capabilities, better water-resistance and improved Face ID unlocking technology. Still, Apple managed to save a few surprises, such as longer battery life for the iPhone Pro models and aggressive pricing.

The iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and Pro Max are successors to the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max lines. They look similar from the front and continue to have the more OLED screens on the high-end models, and LCD on the regular iPhone 11. The new models will distinguish themselves from their predecessors with new colors and finishes as well as new photo capabilities that rival traditional cameras.

The iPhone 11 adds a second camera, while Pro and Pro Max gain a third back camera with new video and photo software. The phones also add Night Mode. The front cameras now are 12 megapixel and support wide-angle, 4K, and slow-motion image capture. In addition to the camera features, the iPhone 11 adds stronger glass, an hour of more battery life compared to the iPhone XR, faster Face ID, and a new A13 chip.

The iPhone 11 will start at $699, below the $749 iPhone XR price from last year. The iPhone Pro starts at $999 and the iPhone Pro Max costs $1,099 or more. Those prices are the same as the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max from last year. The new models go on sale Sept. 20 after pre-orders open Sept. 13.

Apple also launched a new entry-level iPad for $329, increasing the screen size of the tablet 10.2-inches from 9.7-inches. Apple Watch models will come in ceramic and titanium cases and a new always-on screen. The company said its TV+ original video subscription service will launch Nov. 1 for $4.99 a month, undercutting the price of rival offerings. Arcade gaming subscription service will launch on Sept. 19 and will also cost $4.99 a month.
