IDC has released their Innovators report recognizing five companies with revenue under $100 million specializing in analytic applications for manufacturers.

The technologies included are a combination of Big Data analytics, IoT or edge analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. The IDC Innovators study profiles Augury, Element Analytics, Falkonry, Sight Machine, and Tulip.

Augury applies machine learning algorithms to mechanical data in factories and other facilities, helping its customers to deliver higher levels of service (including predictive maintenance). With machine learning and other analytics, Element Analytics analyzes and then integrates industrial time series data with other data sources to develop digital twins of industrial assets.

Falkonry discovers and classifies "behaviors" in the plant using automated machine learning and multivariate analysis of time series data, creating early warning signals for operational conditions. Sight Machine uses AI and machine learning to create digital twins for manufacturing "systems," which customers are using to better manage their own assets and, in some cases, the assets of their suppliers. Tulip offers a manufacturing application development and analytics platform for customers to develop apps that easily track workflows or processes with data, especially sensor data, and analyze those processes.

"These vendors are not just bringing together new technologies to create product offerings, they are also specifically focused on operational challenges in the manufacturing industry," said Kimberly Knickle, research vice president, IDC Manufacturing Insights.
