At HP Reinvent, the company’s largest global partner event, HP unveiled a virtual reality headset. The HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset - Professional Edition delivers immersive experiences with its 2160 x 2160 panel per eye with double the resolution and 114-degree field of view.
“As the commercial VR segment is expected to grow to $34 billion by 2022, customers are seeking lifelike VR viewing to help open doors to new business opportunities in product design, training, and engineering,“ said Spike Huang, vice president and global lead of VR, HP. “The time for commercial VR is now and adding HP Reverb to our broader virtual reality portfolio is an important step in addressing this growing market.“
HP worked closely with customers across product design, architecture, engineering, training, healthcare, and location-based entertainment to better understand their unique insights. VR-based training, for example, has a 75 percent retention rate compared to lectures at 10 percent and reading at 5 percent. As part of this process, HP worked to create a device which solves for three specific pain points commonly associated with VR solutions: visual quality, smarter fit and comfort and worry-free deployment and support.
The ultra-light Reverb VR Headset features excellent resolution with redesigned optics to increase the visual “sweet spot.“ It also features integrated headphones with spatial audio and smart assistant compatible dual microphones. Deployment is simple. It has integrated Bluetooth with pre-paired motion controllers right out of the box and support for Windows Mixed Reality and Steam VR.
The HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset - Pro Edition is scheduled for availability in U.S. starting in late-April for $649. The Consumer Edition of Reverb will hit the U.S. stores at the same time for $599. Both editions include a 1-year limited warranty.
