Sony plans to redefine its smartphone vision with their latest flagship Xperia 1. They want to bring company's professional display and cinematography technologies packed into a sleek smartphone powerhouse.

“We have established a new vision for our Xperia brand to bring our customers experiences beyond imagination,“ said Mitsuya Kishida, President, Sony Mobile Communications. “We are continuing to push the boundaries in pursuit of innovation and our new Xperia delivers genuine technologies with a multitude of professional-grade features for creative entertainment experiences that are only possible with Sony.“

The 6,5 inch 21:9 HDR OLED display is powered by Sony’s BRAVIA TV technologies. 10 bit tonal gradation representing a myriad of colours, delivers deeper levels of black, while colours appear more natural. The display, together with originally developed image processing, supports wide colour space ITU-R BT.2020 as well as DCI-P3 with Illuminant D65.

Main camer has three different lenses: 16mm for wide landscapes, a versatile 26mm and a 52mm telephoto shooting (35mm equivalent). Technologies from Sony’s α professional cameras are inherited in Xperia 1 as BIONZ X for mobile. The algorithm enables the world’s first Eye AF in a smartphone and also delivers continuous burst shooting with up to 10 fps AF/AE tracking.

The metal frame encases Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on front and back, while IP65/IP68 certified water resistance guards against the elements. The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform which offers Gigabit LTE capability, up to 25% faster CPU and up to 40% GPU performance versus the previous generation. It also has a 3300 mAh battery that should endure the whole day for most users. Xperia 1 will be available form late spring.
