Samsung Acquired German Data Centre Cooling Specialist
Samsung announced it would buy Flakt Group for €1.5 billion from European investment firm Triton.
Samsung announced it would buy Flakt Group for €1.5 billion from European investment firm Triton. The German-based group is a major supplier of cooling systems for data centers.
The South Korean tech giant noted that the heading, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) specialists’ systems have enabled data centre customers to reduce energy consumption, enabling them to lower their carbon footprints. It added that the integration of Samsung’s building integration control system and FlaktGroup’s HVAC control platform will enable a wider range of building energy control systems, through which the company expects an expansion of its service and maintenance business.
Samsung SDS, Samsung’s IT services entity, operates data centres in 18 locations. In November 2024, the unit named Lee Jun-hee, previously VP at Samsung, as its new CEO and president. The deal is Samsung’s biggest overseas takeover since 2017, when it acquired Harman International Industries.
