Tesla is recalling almost half a million of its Model 3 and Model S vehicles. Problems with the rearview camera and trunk issues increase the risk of crashing, the U.S. road safety regulator said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was discussing another camera issue with the company. Models affected in the recall range in production years from 2014 to 2021, almost half a million vehicles. The manufacturer is recalling 356,309 2017-2020 Model 3 vehicles because of rearview camera problems and 119,009 Model S vehicles due to front hood issues.

„In Model 3 sedans, the rearview camera cable harness may be damaged by the opening and closing of the trunk lid, preventing the rearview camera image from displaying,“ the NHTSA said. For Model S vehicles, certain problems may cause a front trunk to open without warning, Tesla said. The company stated it is not aware of any crashes related to the issues.
