YouTube TV Goes Dark for an Hour During World Cup Semifinals

YouTube TV, a live-streaming service, went dark during the World Cup semifinal match between England and Croatia, according to Bloomberg.

The service tweeted an apology for the “horrible“ timing of the livestream malfunction. The outage came less than an hour after YouTube TV tweeted a tongue-in-cheek jab at sports fans cheering for one of the teams in the match: “Hey #ENG fans, are you guys okay?“

YouTube TV, part of Google’s YouTube video service, has leaned more on live sports to draw consumers to its platform. Earlier this year, YouTube TV bolstered its base package by adding networks from the NBA and MLB.

Streaming resumed about an hour after the outage while the soccer match continued. “We are so sorry about the service interruption and we understand your frustration,“ the service said in a Twitter post.

In the end, this portal originates in Croatia and we are proud of our football players. ICT Business team is sorry that you weren't able to see Croatia winning against England, but you'll be able to watch us in the finals on Sunday vs. France. IDEMO HRVATSKA!!!
