Qualcomm unveiled two new mobile chips aiming to bring advanced smartphone capabilities to a wider audience. Chipsets are tailored for mid-range and budget Android devices.
Both platforms introduce Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI, which is a new feature set designed to reduce lag and improve the fluidity of everyday device interactions. Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 features 20% faster app launches, while screen stutter is reduced by 18% compared to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. The more entry-level Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 posts a larger jump, with 43% faster launches 25% less stutter.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 pairs four performance cores running at up to 2.6GHz with four efficiency cores at up to 2GHz. It supports FHD+ displays at up to 144Hz, cameras up to 200MP, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0. On the imaging side, AI night vision makes its debut in the series. The Qualcomm Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0 is introduced to sustain smooth, extended gaming sessions from a GPU that is 21% more powerful than the previous generation.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 arrives with a 2+6 core layout, with two performance cores at up to 2.4GHz and six efficiency cores at up to 2GHz. It also supports FHD+ at up to 144Hz, cameras up to 108MP, sub-6GHz 5G, and Wi-Fi 5. Its headline figure is a 77% GPU performance improvement over the Gen 4. It is the first chip in the 4-series to support 90FPS gameplay. It comes with SIM Dual Active connectivity, enabling simultaneous 5G and 4G network connectivity across the SIMs.
