Movistar Argentina has selected Ericsson to transform its Radio Access Network over a three-year period based on Ericsson Radio System. In addition to expanded network coverage, the deal will provide customers with more rewarding mobile broadband experiences.

The modernization gets underway this year, with a partial network upgrade to be completed in 2021. The scope covers improvements to radio access network capacity and coverage as well as an OSS migration to Ericsson Network Manager. In addition to improvements in mobile broadband coverage and quality, the deal also enables Movistar to start its journey towards 5G. All Ericsson Radio System portfolio products supplied to Movistar Argentina will be able to run 5G New Radio. This capability will be achieved through a remote software installation.

“This transformation deal is the biggest since Telefónica Argentina and Ericsson began working together. With this we will almost double our market share, which is a great vote of confidence and trust in our ability to help them transform as they move towards 5G. As part of this agreement, Ericsson will deploy its latest generation radio network solutions, including full turnkey delivery of products and services for Movistar’s Radio Access Network,“ said Arun Bansal, Senior Vice President and Head of Market Area Europe and Latin America, Ericsson.
