Telekom Slovenije switched on the first 5G Standalone (5G SA) mobile service in Slovenia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation. The 5G network supports next-generation Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), Voice over New Radio (VoNR), enhanced network capacity and scalability, and the highest performing mobile broadband data transfer and network slicing.
Working with Ericsson, Telekom Slovenije has completed an extensive modernization and expansion of its 5G network. Subscribers will now benefit from 5G Standalone connectivity delivered via a network powered end-to-end by Ericsson’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and a full-stack core network, including Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core solution and Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution. The deployment of 5G Standalone also strengthens Slovenia’s digital sovereignty by building secure, resilient, and future-ready infrastructure based on trusted European technology.
As well as making a 5G SA connection possible for subscribers, the modernization made the network overall more efficient, ensured the highest level of cybersecurity, and enabled enhanced performance such as faster and more reliable mobile broadband and ultra-low latency for real-time applications. It also enables differentiated connectivity through network slicing, allowing customized service quality for businesses and critical applications, as well as underpinning enterprise-grade 5G services that support smart city solutions, industrial automation, and next-generation digital services.
“The launch of 5G Standalone marks a major milestone in Slovenia’s digital transformation. We are deploying a next-generation network that enables advanced capabilities such as network slicing, ultra-responsive mobile broadband, and a fully virtualized architecture. This investment lays the foundation for innovation across key sectors, from transport, logistics, media, and public safety, while bringing us closer to our goal of reaching 99% population coverage with state-of-the-art 5G,” said Vesna Prodnik, Member of the Management Board of Telekom Slovenije.
