5G SA and Satellites to Accelerate Roaming Market Growth
Juniper Research recently published the Roaming Tech Horizon for 2025.
Juniper Research recently published the Roaming Tech Horizon for 2025. The report identifies the three ‘Major Movers’ for roaming in 2025, ranked by their anticipated increase in market performance over the next 12 months.
The Roaming Tech Horizon is a free resource that delivers an independent assessment of how 14 key technologies in the roaming ecosystem are evolving. It assesses each technology’s prospects, positioning them as ‘Above the Line’ or ‘Below the Line’, depending on whether their analysts believe they are meeting or failing expectations.
The first of the three ‘Major Movers’ pointed out by the report is travel eSIMs. These provide a lower-cost alternative to traditional mobile roaming services, and the report forecasts the growth in spending on travel eSIM packages.
The second major effect on the roaming market would come from satellite roaming. Given the recent substantial investments and partnerships throughout the ecosystem, satellite roaming will play an increasingly important role in providing roaming coverage in remote areas, Juniper Research stated.
The third key to roaming growth would be 5G Standalone roaming. Over the next 12 months, Juniper Research believes operators will begin to launch 5G standalone roaming services to support the anticipated substantial growth in roaming IoT connections.
“Roaming services have stagnated over the last 10 years. However, there is now a wave of service innovation in the market. Our latest Tech Horizon explores how we expect these emerging technologies to impact the status quo and contribute to future revenue growth within the roaming market,” remarked Alex Webb, Senior Research Analyst at Juniper Research.
