Anthropic Plans to Invest $50 Billion in US Data Centers

Anthropic unveiled plans to invest $50 billion in the buildout of custom data centers across the US. The AI player is partnering with UK-based Fluidstack to construct data centers in Texas and New York, with additional sites to follow.
Fluidstack was chosen as Anthropic’s infrastructure partner for its ability to deliver gigawatts of power, the two companies stated. Instead of building its own data centres, the AI player previously relied on cloud computing partners such as Google and Amazon. Anthropic said that the new facilities are specifically designed to maximise efficiency for its advanced AI workloads, while also supporting ongoing research and development at the technological frontier.
The investment will lead to the creation of approximately 800 permanent positions and 2,400 construction jobs as the sites become operational throughout 2026. The initiative aligns with US President Donald Trump’s AI action plan, which aims to maintain US leadership in AI, added the company. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that the company is getting closer to AI that can accelerate scientific discovery and help solve complex problems in ways that weren’t possible before, but noted that realizing that potential requires infrastructure that can support continued development at the frontier. “These sites will help us build more capable AI systems that can drive those breakthroughs, while creating American jobs,” he stated.
