Eutelsat Signs Another Maritime Contract
CMA-CGM

Eutelsat signed another maritime connectivity contract for its OneWeb satellite constellation. The deal would provide services to shipping group CMA CGM through specialist provider Marlink Group.

The arrangement involves integrating OneWeb LEO satellites covering Europe with other birds in the same and geosynchronous orbits to create what Eutelsat describes as a hybrid network architecture. Eutelsat stated the mixed network would be operated by managed services provider Marlink, delivering high-throughput and low-latency connectivity to more than 300 CMA CGM vessels. The deployment is scheduled to take place over the next nine months with a principal aim of assisting the shipping company’s digital transformation.

CMA CGM is to be provided with real-time data exchange and enhanced crew services. Eutelsat also predicts environmental benefits through live optimisation of shipping routes, vessel speed, and fuel consumption. Marlink is to use its Xchange NextGen edge cloud platform, which Eutelsat stated would provide cybersecurity, IIoT data collection, and centralised fleet management.
