Meta Platforms signed a deal with Google Cloud worth more than $10 billion. This is Meta's first arrangement with the Alphabet unit as it seeks vast computing power for its AI ambitions.

The deal covers a period of six years and is a fillip for Google Cloud as it competes with rivals Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Meta is on an aggressive AI drive and is committed to pumping billions into expanding its data centre capacity.

The previous collaboration between the companies offered access to Meta Platforms’ Llama AI model on Google Cloud developer platform Vertex AI, but the latest deal is the first between the pair covering cloud computing. Meta initiated a move to sell a fraction more than $2 billion-worth of land and property late last month to contribute to its AI-related costs.
