Huawei launched its Harmony operating system for smartphones in a push to recover from U.S. sanctions. The company unveiled the updated platform and a number of new products in London. Huawei begun deploying HarmonyOS 2.0 on tens of millions of smartphones in China before making it available globally.

Chinese vendor launched a range of smartphones, smart watches, and tablets powered by its new operating system, including a new version of the Mate 40 Series and Mate X2, the WATCH 3 Series, and the MatePad Pro. Huawei also released the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4, its next-generation open-fit Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) wireless Bluetooth earbuds, and two high-end monitors, the MateView and the MateView GT.

The company took this opportunity to announce that roughly 100 other Huawei devices, including both smartphones and tablets, will be upgraded to run on HarmonyOS 2. The use of HarmonyOS means the company will no longer be wholly reliant on Android.

Huawei is aiming to have HarmonyOS on 200 million smartphones and 100 million third-party smart devices by the end of the year, said Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei Consumer Business Group's software department. The presentation ended with a teaser for the flagship P50 phone, whose spring launch was delayed.
