Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica discussed doubling the production of AI Ray-Ban smart glasses by the end of the year. The companies plan to take advantage of the growing demand and stave off rivals.

The tech company is proposing an increase in annual capacity to 20 million units or more by year's end. Partners are also discussing the production of more than 30 million glasses if there is demand. EssilorLuxottica is nearing its target capacity of 10 million units by the year-end.

Meta Platforms bought about a 3% stake in Italy-based EssilorLuxottica in 2025, as rumours of a potential deal circulated the previous year. Two companies partnered in 2020 and launched their first product a year later. Earlier this month, Meta postponed the international release of its Ray-Ban glasses, which launched in its home market in September 2025.
