Oppo Plans to Challenge Apple-Samsung Duopoly in Europe

Oppo has announced a strategic plan to significantly increase its investment across Europe over the next three years. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer aims to solidify its standing in the premium market segment, positioning itself as a direct competitor to industry leaders Apple and Samsung within the region.
During a briefing in London, Oppo Europe CEO Elvis Zhou disclosed plans for a 30% year-on-year investment increase through 2029. Although specific 2025 expenditure figures were not provided, Zhou reaffirmed a deepened commitment to the European market, identifying the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain as the primary focus for the company's growth strategy.
“Our objective is not to displace established brands, but rather to provide a distinct third alternative for consumers,” Zhou remarked. While acknowledging the competitive advantages held by incumbents in terms of brand recognition and retail presence, he maintained that securing a market share between 5% and 10% in the European premium segment is an attainable goal for the company.
The vendor is specifically targeting younger demographics, primarily those aged 18 to 35, by emphasizing advanced camera technology, battery longevity, and integrated AI features rather than competing solely on price points. A recent market analysis conducted by Oppo indicates that over 40% of young consumers prioritize AI capabilities as a decisive factor in their mobile device procurement.
“Oppo is a brand committed to strategic investment, driven by a clear understanding of our target segments and the specific product innovations required to meet their needs,” Zhou stated. He further noted that the company intends to double the sales volume of its flagship Find series by 2027 relative to 2026 performance levels.
“Our presence in Europe is built on offering a differentiated and superior product experience rather than mere affordability,” Zhou added. “Our strategic positioning for this high-end market is definitive. We will avoid short-term discounting for temporary volume gains in favor of a stable, long-term growth trajectory that reinforces our brand value.”
Oppo currently operates in over 20 European countries and is expanding its footprint into the Nordic regions, Poland, and Romania, with Spain currently serving as its most significant regional market. Globally, the manufacturer reported a top-four ranking by shipment volume in the first half of 2026, with international markets accounting for over 60% of its total global shipment value.
