Qualcomm and Huawei have reached a second patent licensing agreement in less than two weeks. The transaction involves Qualcomm acquiring several U.S.-registered technologies from the Chinese manufacturer.

The arrangement encompasses Huawei technologies related to computing, artificial intelligence, and networking, among others. These three sectors, along with 5G, constitute the core of the overall patent cross-licensing deal. This agreement comes just two weeks after Qualcomm secured continuity in a global licensing arrangement with Apple, slated for renewal on April 1, 2027.

Executives from both corporations commended the other’s portfolio and their mutual commitment to operating under fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. Huawei Chief IP Officer Alan Fan stated that the licensing arrangement demonstrates the significant role each company plays within the global technology sector. “Qualcomm’s contributions to modern communication technologies are foundational,” he remarked. John Han, Qualcomm EVP and GM of Technology Licensing, noted the deal validates the company's work on 5G and its established permit process for standards-essential patents. Han also credited Huawei’s sustained innovation and intellectual property portfolio in 5G and other technological fields.
