At its second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2025, Samsung unveiled its latest generation of foldable smartphones. It comprises Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Flip7, and Galaxy Flip7 FE.
With these new foldable devices, Samsung looks to deliver for its users on multiple fronts. According to Counterpoint Research’s forecast, Samsung’s foldable smartphone shipments are projected to grow 27% in Q3, driven by a more diversified portfolio that includes the new lower-end Flip7 FE model. A new, thinner, and lighter design, a higher-resolution camera on the Fold, and a bigger cover screen display on the Flip are some of the crucial upgrades in the new foldables.
According to IDC, the foldable sector accounts for just 1.5% of the overall smartphone market, but Samsung is determined to make headway with its flagship Galaxy Z Fold7. The Fold7 measures 8.9 millimeters when folded, compared to 12.1 millimeters on the Galaxy Z Fold6. Unfolded, it is 4.2 mm thick, down from 5.6 mm last year. It is also lighter at 215 grams, a 24-gram drop from the Fold6, and weighs less than an iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The Fold7 features an 8-inch screen, up from 7.6 inches, while the cover display is made with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and features 12 GB of RAM. It has the same 4,400-mAh battery capacity as last year’s model. The main camera features 200 megapixels with a f/1.7 aperture, compared to the 50-megapixel camera on last year’s model. The Fold7 costs $1,999 and is available for preorder today with general availability beginning 25 July.
Clamshell model, Galaxy Z Fold7 phone, measures 6.5mm thick when unfolded and 13.7mm thick when folded. The main display is 6.9 inches. It comes equipped with Samsung’s new Exynos 2500 chip instead of a Qualcomm processor. Samsung is packing a 4,300 mAh battery into the Z Flip7, which is the largest ever in its Flip series. It added support for Gemini Live on the cover screen of the Z Flip7, which allows users to tap into the assistant without having to unfold the phone. It also integrates with Samsung Notes. It comes with a starting price of $1,009, while the budget-conscious Z Flip7 FE is priced at $899.
The Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 are some of the first devices to run Android 16 natively out of the box. The new devices also feature an upgraded version of Google’s Gemini assistant, which now has an AI mode for Q&A-style conversations. “Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 represent the pinnacle of our innovation,” said TM Roh, president and acting head of the device experience division at Samsung. “This is more than just a new flip or fold.”
