X CEO Yaccarino Leaves Company

Social media company X's CEO, Linda Yaccarino, is leaving her position. She was named by Elon Musk as the company’s first permanent chief under his ownership two years ago.

Yaccarino wrote on X that she was immensely grateful to Musk for entrusting her with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App. She also pointed to work under her stewardship around prioritising the safety of users, especially children, and restoring advertiser confidence.

Former NBCUniversal executive Yaccarino was appointed CEO by Musk to replace himself in May 2023, after he served as head of the company for more than six months following his buyout of the social media platform. Yaccarino was charged with dealing with the aftermath of cost-cutting measures introduced by Musk, including massive lay-offs, as well as an advertiser exodus.

In the statement announcing her departure, Yaccarino added that the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with xAI. Musk announced a buyout of X by xAI in an all-stock transaction, valued at $45 billion, earlier this year.
