Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 mobile chipset, an evolution in its offerings for mobile platforms. New SoC includes a 27% boost in CPU performance and 30% faster GPU graphics renderings than its predecessor.
The new chipset also has support for generative AI assistants and large language models (LLMs) running directly on a device. Some of the models ready to deploy on Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 are by Mistral AI, Meta Llama, IBM, IndusQ from Tech Mahindra, and others. For on device AI assistants, support is subject to OEM implementations. The chip vendor also improved AI performance by 65% compared to the Gen 3 chip.
The company’s AI engine includes Stable Diffusion on the 7 series for the first time to generate images from text prompts directly onto a device instead of relying on cloud-based processing. Qualcomm stated that Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 also features a triple image signal processor (ISP) for AI-enhanced features built directly into the hardware for the first time in the Snapdragon 7 series.
It comes equipped with a new-in-series AI-powered auto focus, auto white balance, and auto exposure for photos and videos as well as higher dynamic range. It also features electronic image stabilisation, which is another series first. For connectivity, the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System ushers in 3GPP Release 17 5G for download speeds up to 4.2 Gb/s, plus support for more networks compared to its predecessor.
