Anthropic Seeks up to $10 Billion in New Funding Round

Anthropic is close to an arrangement to raise $10 billion in a fresh round of funding. If the round goes through, it would be one of the largest to date for an AI start-up.

The company was in initial talks to raise $5 billion, which would have given it a valuation of $170 billion, but the targeted amount doubled due to robust investor interest. Negotiations are ongoing, and the amount could change going forward. Rivals OpenAI and xAI have also raised a billion in capital in 2025 to build new data centres and hire more AI talent.

Investment company Iconiq Capital is expected to lead the round with additional participation from TPG, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Spark Capital, and Menlo Ventures. In January, Lightspeed Venture Partners led a $3.5 billion investment round, which brought Anthropic’s valuation to $61.5 billion.

In November 2024, Amazon pumped another $4 billion into Anthropic to bring the tech giant’s total investment to $8 billion. It secured an upfront investment of $500 million from Google in 2023, which also included a plan to invest an additional $1.5 billion over time. Alphabet-owned Google has a 10% stake in the company.
