Intel eliminated 529 jobs in the US state of Oregon. Job cuts are a part of CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s plan to lower costs and refocus the company on its core business.
The company stated the layoffs would commence during two weeks beginning on 15 July. Based on a list filed in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification document, the job cuts include engineers working on cloud systems, development tools software, product development, system and software optimisation, and program managers.
Intel said the layoffs are necessary to streamline operations and improve competitiveness. The staff reductions represent more than a fifth of the company’s overall headcount. Intel also eliminated 107 jobs at the company’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, last month.
In April, the chipmaker planned to cut more than 20% of its staff to cut expenses this year and streamline operations. Intel shed 15,000 workers at the end of 2024, leaving it with around 109,000 employees.
