Samsung announced it expects to report huge increases in operating profit and revenue when it issues its Q1 results at the end of April. The growth was linked by the media to surging chip prices caused by AI infrastructure demand.
In a brief investor disclosure, Samsung flagged operating profit guidance of KRW57.2 trillion ($38.2 billion) on revenue of KRW133 trillion. Reported figures from 1Q25 were KRW6.7 trillion and KRW79.1 trillion, respectively. Although Samsung provided no commentary or detailed breakdown on the guidance, financial media in its home market of South Korea and beyond attributed the anticipated rise to gains in the company’s semiconductor business.
The Korea Herald reported the figures were well above market expectations, with analysts pinning the strong performance to gains in its memory chip business, given an increase in prices caused by constrained supply and high demand. Reuters also noted the company was benefitting from elevated chip prices caused by the AI boom, but highlighted that, alongside this, Samsung was gaining from a slump in the South Korean Won against the US dollar.
