Solar Cow Won CES Innovation Award
Solar Cow

This year, a stand out innovative humanitarian solution won the CES Innovation Award: Creative solar energy reward system brings children to school. The Solar Cow project is a social engineering project that aims to help prevent the serious issue of child labor.

It is also meant to provide educational opportunities by rewarding parents with free access to electricity, which is very high economic value in Africa, who sends their children to school instead of a workplace. Solar cow is a solar-powered charging station in a steel frame of a cow, thus the name, Solar Cow, inside the school area.

At school they also provide students with Power Milk, which are portable batteries shaped like a milk bottle. Students come in the morning and charge their Power Milk through Solar Cow, so that after class, they go home with a fully charged power source that serves the entire household. Education is what takes place while they are waiting for Power Milk to be charged.

The company that came up with this solution is named YOLK. It innovates solar energy through design. Its first two products focused on bringing portable solar chargers friendly to use in daily life. Solar Paper notably raised 1 Million USD on Kickstarter when it first launched. With its vision to make special  solar products that are easy to use in everyday life that changes the world, they clearly came up with the solution that changes the world.
