Trump Announced Overarching Federal Executive AI Order
US President Donald Trump announced plans to sign an executive order to create a single federal rule for AI governance.

US President Donald Trump announced plans to sign an executive order to create a single federal rule for AI governance. This measure would take regulation out of the hands of individual states.
“I will be doing a one-rule Executive Order this week,” he stated in a Truth Social post. “We are beating all countries at this point in the race, but that won’t last long if we are going to have 50 states, many of them bad actors, involved in rules and the approval process.”
Trump is facing opposition from members of his own political party and supporters over the order, who contend that the President is favoring big tech companies such as Apple, Meta, and Amazon, which have donated to various projects. “You can’t expect a company to get 50 Approvals every time they want to do something,” Trump stated. “That will never work!”
While he did not provide any additional details on his forthcoming executive order, Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding from states that do not comply or file lawsuits against them. His order will likely face opposition from various states. In July, the Trump administration revealed its AI action plan, designed to solidify the US’s position as the global leader in the face of competition from countries such as China.
