Xiaomi Unveils New Premium Smartphones in Barcelona

Xiaomi unveiled its next-generation 17 Series of smartphones. Pad 8 Series, Xiaomi's latest flagship tablets, and a selection of Smart on the Go AIoT products were also introduced, including Scooter 6 Series and Watch 5, further expanding Xiaomi's connected ecosystem.

As a core focus of the announcement, Xiaomi also unveiled a major evolution of its partnership with Leica. The collaboration has been elevated from a highly successful Joint R&D framework to a new Strategic Co-creation Model, reflecting a deeper, end-to-end partnership. Built under this upgraded model, the 17 Ultra and Leica Leitzphone set a new benchmark for mobile photography.

The 17 Series features a minimalist design that prioritises elegance and a professional look. Xiaomi 17 measures at 8.06mm in thickness and weighs just 191g, despite packing high-end computational power, advanced imaging capabilities, and a robust battery. The thinnest and lightest Ultra model yet, 17 Ultra measures just 8.29mm thick and weighs as little as 218.4g, sporting a refined, all-flat body with ultra-thin bezels and a newly repositioned, smaller, less intrusive camera deco housing.

Xiaomi continues its partnership with Leica to deliver a professional imaging experience. Built on Leica UltraPure optical lens treatment and configuration, the 17 Series performs reliably across a wide range of lighting conditions, preserving detail in both bright and low-light scenes. A high-end lens configuration with multi-layer coating helps reduce reflections and optical interference, allowing cleaner light to reach the sensor. Imaging across the series is supported by tools such as AI Creativity Assistant and HyperConnect features, including file sharing and Multicam setup.

All devices in the 17 are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform. The custom-built 3ʳᵈ Gen Qualcomm Oryon CPU, next-generation Adreno GPU, advanced Hexagon NPU, RAM, and storage are suited to the most demanding mobile tasks and easily meet user needs, including rapid-fire photo and video capture, high-clarity video calls, high-productivity multitasking, and resource-intensive gaming. Xiaomi 17 Series introduces up to 100W HyperCharge and, in addition, 100W PD-PPS charging, which opens up a wide range of compatible chargers.

Marking the 100th anniversary of Leica, the company partnered with Xiaomi to bring its heritage and design philosophy to a mobile device. Leica Leitzphone features a durable aluminum-alloy body with a nickel-anodized finish. On the software side, a refreshed Leica-tuned interface offers performance- and artistry-focused imaging that is intuitive and enjoyable for both casual photographers and seasoned professionals. It features an innovative Camera Ring, a physical dial with a knurling finish that makes it feel just like a real zoom camera in the hand.
