Samsung and Mobeewave will deploy NFC-enabled contactless payment acceptance on mobile devices worldwide. The solution is currently being deployed in Canada and will begin to expand globally starting next year.

Over the past several months, the two companies have worked together on a pilot in Canada, testing Samsung POS, a secure, mobile-based solution. It enables merchants to accept debit and credit payments by tapping contactless cards, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay wallets onto Samsung NFC-enabled devices without dongles, cables or other additional hardware.

The pilot generated over 10,000 downloads of Samsung POS, driven by transactions micro-merchants and small businesses in a variety of industries looking to grow their revenue by accepting card payments. Merchants who want to accept mobile payments can easily download the app from the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store and go through a simple sign-up process within the app to register as a merchant.

“We’re excited to launch this solution with our strategic partner, Mobeewave. Their patented contactless payment processing platform is the only mobile-based solution accepting Mastercard, Visa and Interac transactions in pilot in Canada. Their proprietary technology allows us to launch this new solution on a global scale,“ said Sunny Park, VP and Head of Service Operation Group, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung.

“Together with Samsung, we’re creating a brand-new market segment with an opportunity to offer the untapped micro and small business market with an easily accessible, highly secure, low-cost and easy-to-use mobile payment acceptance solution. There are an estimated 25 million micro-merchants and approximately 5.5 million small merchants worldwide, many of whom are unable to grow their business due to a lack of easily accessible and affordable payment acceptance services. We aim to drive incremental revenue for these businesses through our secure solution,“ added Maxime de Nanclas, co-Founder, Mobeewave.
