In the Croatian city Samobor, Hrvatski Telekom has tested the technology that enables fast coverage with 5G services in larger areas. It is a dynamic spectrum sharing technology DSS, the application of which is crucial for the rapid implementation of 5G technology.

HT has enabled 5G technology on ten base stations in the 2.1 GHz frequency band in the Samobor area, with five base stations in the 3.5 GHz band, which allows for the largest 5G area in terms of speed and coverage in Croatia. The application of DSS technology enables the current use of existing frequencies for 5G and reduces the need for new base stations and locations on specific 5G frequencies. A commercially available Samsung S20 5G terminal was used to test the 5G functionality.

"By applying dynamic spectrum sharing technology, we tested the largest 5G coverage area by combining 5G technology in separate (3.5 GHz) and shared 4G/5G spectrum (2.1 GHz) and thus made the biggest breakthrough in the development of 5G technology in Croatia. We have once again proven that we have the leading network in Croatia," said Boris Drilo, Member of the Management Board and CTIO of Hrvatski Telekom.

Simple and fast implementation of dynamic spectrum sharing technology, which allows existing frequency resources to be dynamically shared between 4G and 5G technology, is possible thanks to the recent modernization of Hrvatski Telekom's entire mobile network. The project, which lasted more than two years, is the most significant private infrastructure investment in Croatia in 2019, and it introduced the cutting-edge 5G ready equipment and advanced services of the future.
