Meta Platforms released a standalone AI app. The social network giant aims to better compete against chatbot offerings from other companies.

The Meta AI assistant uses the company’s open-source Llama 4 large language model. Meta previously integrated AI into its Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp offerings.

The company said that Meta AI assistant is different from rival chatbots because it can draw on information users have already chosen to share across various social media sites. “We’re using our decades of work personalizing people’s experiences on our platforms to make Meta AI more personal,” the company stated.

“You can tell Meta AI to remember certain things about you…and it can also pick up important details based on context”. The personalized Meta AI responses are currently available in the US and Canada. Meta announced the app ahead of its first LlamaCon conference at its headquarters in California.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated earlier this year the company plans a capex of $60 billion to $65 billion to broaden its AI infrastructure. He predicts the company’s AI assistant will become the most widely used in 2025, reaching more than 1 billion people.
