Chinese smartphone brands Realme and OnePlus will be integrated into Oppo as official sub-brands. The move should pool resources and cut costs for parent company BKK Electronics.

Realme, which has a strong presence in India, Southeast Asia, and Europe, would rejoin Oppo after becoming an independent brand in July 2018. OnePlus, meanwhile, has operated as a sister brand of Oppo since 2013. Internal sources at Oppo said that BKK Electronics decided on the shake-up based on the potential advantages of collaborative operations and to better integrate resources.

With Realme and OnePlus falling under the Oppo umbrella, the brands would essentially operate as one team for R&D, after-sales, and logistics, rather than three. Oppo would operate as the main brand, with a goal to expand its global market share. Realme CEO Sky Li is set to lead the overall sub-brand business, and the company’s upcoming new products are to be released as scheduled.
